To make a long story longer.

One year ago I convinced myself to start a blog. A domain name and a dream was all I could muster—it was as far as my courage would let me go. In the 11 months since, I have found reason after reason against putting my words on a public facing medium—after all, I’m not a writer. You see, twenty-two years ago, I acquired a degree in journalism, but never practiced it because another dream was born.

Jenny Castle has a knack to make a long story longer—spin a story to put a smile on your face. These are the tales of an extraordinarily ordinary life of a dreamer, a feeler, and sometimes make believer. In a little over one month I, Jenny Castle, will turn 45, and age has finally pushed this “late bloomer” into believing that I AM A WRITER—and this is my page.

Something’s been weighing heavily on my mind over the past few weeks. In anticipation of my son moving back home from college, I realize how accustomed I have become to him being away. By accustomed I mean it’s all the things you get used to when living alone—dishes being washed whenever one feels like it, tv set to Hallmark or Lifetime without a fuss. I had half the garage to use for different projects and all the extra closet space in my home was mine. Now I have to adjust to my son and all of his dorm/apartment stuff encroaching upon my peacefulness. I know in my heart his moving back is what I need and also fear in my heart that it is only temporary. There will be another move out day soon enough and this time it will be for good.

My new roommate is more than welcome back home for a short stay. What is not welcome are the small German roaches he says have invaded his apartment.

My son first told me about these small, but infesting, roaches a month ago. He suspects the uptick was due to all the tenants from the fourplex moving away for the summer—I guess roaches adhere to the ol’ saying of “if the cats are away…” I advised my son to buy some pesticide at Home Depot and take care of the issue in the weeks he has left on his lease. The problem has not gone away, and the lease is up—he’s packing up, and MY house is the next destination. Oh, how worried I am becoming!!! I personally text my pest control guy and he now thinks I am crazy. I asked about what arsenal of products they could spray and put down to prevent these critters from infesting my home. He politely said to just leave the boxes in the garage for decontamination and call the office if I was interested in further treatments. Next I tried Amazon, and purchased over 100 glue traps to surround the boxes in the garage and capture any stowaways. I’ve already tested this method and surrounded three boxes my son already brought home. I check the glue traps every day. No small German roaches—but I did catch a specimen of the genus common dust bunny, of which I think I should be more afraid.
