To make a long story longer.

One year ago I convinced myself to start a blog. A domain name and a dream was all I could muster—it was as far as my courage would let me go. In the 11 months since, I have found reason after reason against putting my words on a public facing medium—after all, I’m not a writer. You see, twenty-two years ago, I acquired a degree in journalism, but never practiced it because another dream was born.

Jenny Castle has a knack to make a long story longer—spin a story to put a smile on your face. These are the tales of an extraordinarily ordinary life of a dreamer, a feeler, and sometimes make believer. In a little over one month I, Jenny Castle, will turn 45, and age has finally pushed this “late bloomer” into believing that I AM A WRITER—and this is my page.

San Antonio is still in a drought despite the rainy pattern that has developed in the month of April. Because of the rain, today I tidied up my yard. Over the course of the worsening drought I have adopted that weekly chore to keep up some semblance of curb appeal. The grass died throughout my formerly green lawn of Bermuda grass, and now, any sprinkle of rain turns the yard into something more like a bald man’s head needing a haircut.

Rain perked blades of grass now stick out among the bare spots. There are also extra-long weedy grass blades sprinkled here and there throughout my lawn. Neighbors, this is where a haircut/lawncut is necessary. A quick cleanup with the edger gives the illusion of fullness of lawn. And like a toupee for your lawn, plant some natives in between grass patches or throw down some mulch. Sweep the curb of remnant brown oak leaves, pick up detritus, collect trash, don’t just abandon your bald lawn. Like hair, even a bald head needs a haircut to look neat. Let’s keep San Antonio tidy one yard at a time.
